چکیده

Modern Internet protocols demonstrate inefficient performance in those networks where the connectivity between end nodes has intermittent property due to dynamic topology or resource constraints. Network environments where the nodes are characterized by opportunistic connectivity are referred to as Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs). Because of numerous applications such as low-density mobile ad hoc networks, command/response military networks and wireless sensor networks, DTNs have been one of the growing topics of interest characterized by a significant amount of research efforts invested in this area over the past decade. Routing is one of the major components that significantly affects the overall performance of DTN networks in terms of resource consumption, data delivery and latency. Over the past few years a number of routing protocols have been proposed. The focus of this paper is on description, classification and comparison of these protocols. We discuss the state-of-the-art routing schemes and methods in opportunistic networks and classify them to two main deterministic and stochastic routing categories. Finally, we introduce the recently proposed network coding concept, and discuss recent researches regarding coding-based routing protocols in intermittent networks.

Energy-Aware Probabilistic Epidemic Forwarding Method in Heterogeneous Delay Tolerant Networks

Due to the increasing use of wireless communications, infrastructure-less networks such as Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs) should be highly considered. DTN is most suitable where there is an intermittent connection between communicating nodes such as wireless mobile ad hoc network nodes. In general, a message sending node in DTN copies the message and transmits it to nodes which it encounters. A...

پروتکل مسیریابی خودتطبیقی با محدوده تأخیر برای شبکه های موردی بین خودرویی

Abstract Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is a particular type of mobile ad hoc network in which vehicles communicate between themselves using wireless antenna.  Due to unique characteristics of VANETs (e.g. high mobility of nodes and dynamic topology), routing is one of the challenging tasks in such networks. Consequently, delay tolerant networks which consider the disconnect nature of...

Vehicular Delay-Tolerant Networks

—There are problems of low delivery radio and high transmission delay in Vehicular Delay-Tolerant Networks (a.b. VDTN. To address these problems, this paper proposes a Vehicular Delay-tolerant Network routing algorithm based on Contention (a.b. VDNC). VDTN algorithm consists of three strategies: the intersection selection strategy based on the Manhattan distance and traffic information, the fi...

Movement Models Based Performance Comparison of Routing Protocols in Delay Tolerant Networks

Delay-tolerant networks have the great potential to connecting devices and regions of the world that are being presently under-served by current networks. A challenge for Delay Tolerant Networks is to determine the routes through the network without having an end to end connection at any given instant of time. In DTN the routing of packets is done using store-carry-forward mechanism. In this pa...

Design an Efficient Community-based Message Forwarding Method in Mobile Social Networks

Mobile social networks (MSNs) are a special type of Delay tolerant networks (DTNs) in which mobile devices communicate opportunistically to each other. One of the most challenging issues in Mobile Social Networks (MSNs) is to design an efficient message forwarding scheme that has a high performance in terms of delivery ratio, latency and communication cost. There are two different approaches fo...

Performance Analysis of Scheduling and Dropping Policies in Vehicular Delay-Tolerant Networks

Vehicular Delay-Tolerant Networking (VDTN) was proposed as a new variant of a delay/disruptive-tolerant network, designed for vehicular networks. These networks are subject to several limitations including short contact durations, connectivity disruptions, network partitions, intermittent connectivity, and long delays. To address these connectivity issues, an asynchronous, store-carry-and-forwa...
